TCI Sports Commission hosts Youth Basketball Camp

The Sports Commission has undertaken numerous projects this year, most of which has been focused on the nation’s youth and strengthening their performance on and off the track (or field).

The Youth Basketball League is the Commission’s latest initiative and is set to take place from September 4th to November 27th 2021. Naturally, they will be partnering with the TCI Basketball Federation to ensure the League’s success.

The league will be divided into two different age groups 12 and under and 14 and under. It will consist of 8 teams per age category and practices will take place once a week in preparation for official games that will take place on Saturdays. Outdoor venues will be utilised for practices and official games will be played at the Gustarvus Lightbourne Sports Complex.

The prospects of this is exciting and offer up new opportunities for sponsors and athletes alike according to the Director of the Sports Commission Jarrett Forbes.

“So we’re looking for longevity sustainability and we also partnered with private sector entities who are coming on board and to have direct impact into the lives of our young people. You know oftentimes our young folk would see the logo when they’re driving down the street. Whether it’s a phone brand or an electrical company or major hotel. But they may not come with that entity but through this youth basketball league having the opportunity to actually sponsor the team, name the team, interact with the athletes and show where your sponsorship is having that long term development of these athletes through mentorship discipline helping them to invest in their passion. It’s a great opportunity across the board.”

If you have a child or loved one who would like to get involved contact the Commission at info.sportscommission@gov.tc. Registration ends on the 12th of August 2021.
