CARIFTA Swimming Update
Since this article was published, Davis has won a silver in both the 50m butterfly and 100m freestyle. He achieved a personal best swim in the 100m event with a time of 1:01:03.
Team TCI ranked 15 out of 18 countries.
Star swimmer Jayden Davis put his best foot forward this weekend at the CARIFTA Swimming Championships 2022 in Barbados. Jayden acquired his and TCI’s first-ever gold medal in the Boys 11-12 100m butterfly.
Viewers were on the edge of their seats as Jayden made his way to the finish. Despite a last-minute effort by his nearest opponent, it was too late as Jaden had already won.
With two days of competition remaining, we’ll see more of the gold medallist in tonight’s finals. Davis is set to compete in the 200m freestyle and the 50m butterfly.
This is TCI’s second time medalling at the championships. Rohan Shearer swam to a silver medal finish in the 50m backstroke back in 2019. Shearer has returned to compete in this year’s games.
Commenting on their pending performance as President of the TCI Swimming Federation President of Turks and Caicos islands, Daniel Redmond said the overall development of the athletes was the priority.
โI donโt think the success of the team hinges on winning a medal, although a lot of people have been asking me if we are going to win any medals. There is a strong possibility of that, but if somebody was to come forward and set a lifetime personal best, simply because the competition is stronger that year, obviously I would consider that to be a successful participation. What I would like to see is as many people setting as many personal bests as possible,โ he said.
