Philanthropist and CEO of Turks & Caicos’ energy monopoly Fortis TCI adds a new appointment to her roster

TCI welcomes Women’s History Month with the appointment of Ruth Forbes as Member to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). She is the appointee of His Excellency Governor Nigel Dakin.

We know Forbes best as being President and CEO of Fortis TCI as of August 2020. She also serves as a Director on the Board of Fortis Ontario – a sister company.

Ruth Forbes continues to break glass ceilings, as one of the few female CEOs in the Caribbean utility sector.

“This exceptional career, and her set of professional accountancy qualifications will, I believe, allow Ruth to serve the people of TCI diligently, and bring expert technical support to her House of Assembly colleagues. I wish her well.”

Forbes attained a diploma in Business Administration (Hons) from University of Technology, Kingston, Jamaica and a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Barry University, in the USA. Among other high ranking certifications.

She is also known for her philanthropy and founded a non-profit organization ‘Jewels Ablaze’. The company aims to mentor and support young women in the community.

As a Standing Committee of the House, the appointment lasts for four years. The role will be to review public sector expenditure and hold the Government’s spending to account.

TCI’s very own tech savvy Governor revealed the appointment via his Instagram along with his seal of approval.
