Digicel edges out Flow for the Turks and Caicos Islands’ Fastest internet provider in 2020

From user generated speed testing results by OOKLA, Digicel TCI has come out on top for the Fastest Fixed Network in all quarters of 2020.

Digicel TCI has announced that they have been awarded as the Turks and Caicos Islands’ fastest internet provider in 2020 by popular internet speed-testing site Speedtest by OOKLA.

According to OOKLA, Digicel TCI has come out on top for the Fastest Fixed Network in all four quarters of the year in 2020, with a Speed Score of 20.66. Fighting a battle with only one competitor Flow TCI, a cost of 6.35 Speed Score points made the difference.

But how was this calculated?

OOKLA explains that the tests use analysis from, “12,696 user-initiated tests that are taken on various Speedtest applications connected to a fixed network, including tests taken on mobile phones over a Wi-Fi connection” in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

An interesting statistic from the report suggests that while Flow may not be the fastest internet provider in the TCI, the network’s consumers amass to over 60% of internet users in the entire country. Flow has been serving the Turks and Caicos Islands, prior to the 80s under many trade names as time has progressed such as LIME and Cable & Wireless. In the end, it seems that brand loyalty still matters in 2021.

As for the Caribbean at large, Digicel has won all attainable Speedtest by OOKLA awards in the Caribbean categories including the fastest mobile network award. Battling within their own company, Digicel Trinidad surpasses Digicel Jamaica as the Caribbean’s fastest mobile network in the last quarter of 2020 under the Digicel internet legion.

This is great news for the digital forward company who has expanded its services even into the music space, with the app D’Music and podcast app GoLoud.
